Many items featuring repurposed & rescued textiles

Autumnal notes from l’Atelier

The High Holy Days are coming to a close and it is time to get back to work. Right now, that means organizing several pounds of leather remnants by size and color and deciding which of the gazillion ideas in my head will become a reality. Some will, of course, become parts of tote bags and smaller cosmetic/toiletry bags. Because of the leather swatches carpeting every work surface in my studio (the phrase “not even enough room to change my mind” has taken on new significance), the dynamic duo has been temporarily banned after one had to be rescued from the top of a printer on a high shelf yesterday, and also suspecting that easily accessible leather will provide just too much temptation for adolescent paws.

The Dynamic Duo

Their signature look, but not their typical look. They’ve grown, but with them, their love for mischief. But yes, they’re still adorable, we love them and probably annoy them with cuddles, kisses and their personalized theme songs. Cats get theme songs around here.

November 16th, Hingham, MA

My next craft show is November 16th in Hingham, at Penniman Hill for their fourth annual Christmas Bazaar. Yes, we all recognize the irony with the family name, and my husband is trying to make as much hay as he can out of the Penniman booth at the Penniman Hill craft fair. Along with more tote bags, I’m planning to have an inventory of smaller items: doggie poo-bag holders and (surprise!) catnip pouches. I’ve heard on great authority around here that there can never be enough catnip.

Future Products

There is still a plan to create higher-end bags next year, and I’m researching patterns and amassing, er, uhm acquiring raw materials, while trying to stick mainly to rescued and repurposed items. I can’t wait to get started on duffle bags for next year as well.

One bag I’m particularly fond of is the Posh Bag by Mekaposh. I may not be able to make and sell that until late 2025, but it’s gogeous. I don’t have use permission for any pictures of her bags, but please visit her site and let me know.

Is there a particular bag you’ve seen around you’d like to buy? Please let me know in the comments section.
